RELIABILITY AND AVAILABILITY: This system is designed for high reliability and availability to the clients, while at the same time providing an easy-to-use, comprehensive system management tool (MASS/2) for the system administrator. Reliability is designed into the system by enabling redundant components. For example, subsystems such as processors, SCSI, memory, disk drive and power can be configured to be redundant through selection of various options available on the PS/2 Server 195. High availability is ensured through a combination of hardware and software. The ability to configure redundant hardware subsystems, combined with the capabilities of the system management software (MASS/2) to detect failures and continue to run without human intervention, provides powerful tools to maximize system availability for clients on the LAN. This high availability translates into higher customer productivity for all users across the LAN. MULTIPROCESSOR DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE: The multiprocessor design of the server allows a second optional 486/33MHz or 486/50MHz processor, to be added. Both are connected to a high-speed 200MB per second, 64-bit wide parity protected bus. The processors employ a second level cache of 128KB or 256KB and communicate to memory via four independent memory controllers. The system can support up to 128MB of ECC main memory and 28GB of mass storage supported by two RISC SCSI controllers and four SCSI buses providing the customer with a variety of expansion choices and high reliability. Another key feature to improved performance is the unique IBM Orthogonal RAID-5 Disk Array/2 product.
