The 3117 PC Adapter (#4925) and High Speed Adapter (#4920), announced for present IBM Personal Computers on June 16, 1986, are used in IBM Personal System/2 Model 30 to attach the IBM 3117/3118 Scanners. Diagnostic 3.5" diskettes are provided as a supplement to the Guide to Operations which will be shipped with each adapter. TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: o An IBM Personal System/2 Models 50, 60, 80 or IBM Personal System/2 Model 30 o #1028, #1029, #4920, and #4925 are designed to operate with: - An optional slot in the system unit - A Monochrome Display 8503, or Color Display 8512, or Color Display 8513 in order to run diagnostics Note: In the case of IBM Personal System/2 Model 30, current displays of color graphics adapter mode are supported. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: The IBM 3117 Adapter/A, High Speed Adapter/A, 3117 Adapter, and High Speed Adapter are designed to operate with the Image Support Facility 2 Version 1.1. CONFIGURATIONS: An IBM 3117 Scanner attached to a system unit via the IBM 3117 Adapter/A or 3117 Adapter requires the following: o An 3117 Adapter/A (#1029) on an 8550, 8560, or 8580 or an IBM 3117 Adapter (#4925) on an 8530. o An 3117 PC Cable (#3005) on the 3117. An IBM 3117 Scanner configured with the IBM 3117 Extension Unit or an IBM 3118 Scanner attached to a system unit via the High Speed Adapter/A or High Speed Adapter requires the following: o One High Speed Adapter/A (#1028) on an 8550, 8560, 8580 or one High Speed Adapter (#4920) on an 8530. o An 3117 Extension Unit (#4555) on the 3117. o One Serial Adapter Cable (#0217) for the High Speed Adapter/A. o One Asynchronous Adapter Cable (#2067) for the High Speed Adapter. Note: The 3117 Scanner configured with the 3117 Extension Unit or an IBM 3118 Scanner can be installed via the Serial Interface of the system unit using Asynchronous Adapter Cable (#2067). LIMITATIONS: Only one Adapter (#1028, #1029, #4920, or #4925) can be installed in a system unit to support a single scanner. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The customer is responsible for unpacking, setting up the IBM 3117 Adapter/A, 3117 Adapter, High Speed Adapter/A and High Speed Adapter and performing problem determination if necessary. Necessary set-up instructions are shipped with the appropriate Guide-to-Operations manual for each adapter. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: The Guide-to-Operations manual contains diagnostic procedures which assist the customer in isolating a defective unit. The failing unit can then be repaired either on-site or at the repair center. The Guide-to-Operations for the IBM 3117 Adapter and High Speed Adapter provide 5-1/4" diagnostic diskettes. Its supplement provides a 3.5" diagnostic diskette. PACKAGING: The IBM 3117 Adapter/A and High Speed Adapter/A are shipped with a Guide-to-Operations which includes a diagnostic 3.5" diskette. The IBM 3117 Adapter and High Speed Adapter are shipped with a Guide-to-Operations and Supplements. SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities. If the warranty period for these features extends beyond that of the host system, the customer may be required to provide proof of purchase to obtain warranty service.
