Readme of Archive [ABMC32.EXE] READ THIS FIRST Before you install the Above Board MC32, please note: o Your computer must have version 1.03 or higher of IBM's SC.EXE program to install the Above Board. o Do not run IBM's diagnostics programs to test the Above Board's memory. o The Above Board MC32 will not work in a 25 MHz IBM PS/2 Model 70 computer. The rest of this README file explains the first two points in detail. **** Above Board MC32 and SC.EXE's version **** To install the Above Board MC32 software, your computer must use version 1.03 (or higher) of the IBM's SC.EXE program. Versions before 1.03 contain a bug that won't allow you to install the Above Board correctly. There are several ways to determine which version you have: 1) Check the version number on the label of your IBM Reference Diskette. 2) Insert your Reference Diskette in drive A and restart your computer. When the IBM logo appears, it will include the version number. If you don't have version 1.03 or higher, you'll need to get a new Reference Diskette. Contact any authorized IBM dealer or your corporation's MIS department and ask for the latest IBM Personal System/2 Model 70 or Model 80 Reference Diskette. After you get a new Reference Diskette, you must customize it for your computer before installing the Above Board. If you have other add-in boards in your computer, you must copy the option diskettes for each board. Restart your computer from the Reference Diskette, and follow the directions on the screen to copy an option diskette. Repeat for each add-in board in your computer. (You don't need to restart the computer each time.) ***** Above Board MC32 and IBM diagnostics **** Do not run IBM's diagnostic programs to test the Above Board's memory. (This includes the "Test the computer" option in the main menu of the Reference Diskette program.) --caution-- The IBM test programs aren't compatible with non-IBM add-in boards If you do run the IBM diagnostics with the Above Board in your computer, you could corrupt your computer's memory. Your computer will check the Above Board's memory during its Power On Self Test (POST). In addition, you can use the CHKMEM program described in Chapter 6 to verify the Above Board's memory. If the results of the POST or of CHKMEM aren't what you expected, turn to the Troubleshooting section of Appendix B and follow the suggestions there. * * * * * * * New Installation Steps for Above Board MC 32 * * * * * * * 1 - Install board 2 - Boot to Reference diskette 3 - Say No to Automatically configure 4 - Copy the Intel Option diskette 5 - Choose Set Config, then Change Config 6 - Verify the Memory type (can't be changed) System type and Chip speed 7 - F10 to save 8 - Reboot from harddisk and watch memory count at POST! If any SIMMS are bad, the memory will not install correctly. There won't be any error messages, the memory will simply not install. If you follow these steps and no memory appears to be initialized, check the SIMMS for correct installation and/or correct operation. You may need to replace or substitute one or more of the SIMMS.
